McConnell Institute’s mission
To develop and deliver quality courses using the McConnell Approach for the management of chronic musculoskeletal conditions. All McConnell courses are designed to provide the clinician with an opportunity to learn and practice examination and rehabilitation skills in a ‘hands on’ environment.
This Lab Based course will teach you the only patellofemoral program demonstrating evidence based practice after an exhaustive double blind placebo controlled clinical trial. In the workshop you will learn assessment skills and treatment strategies to address patellofemoral pain.
At the completion of the course you will be able to:
• Assess the static and dynamic alignment of the lower limb in relation to how it affects the knee as well as assessing the alignment of the patella.
• Evaluate quadriceps and gluteal control.
• Evaluate the integrity of the lateral structures.
• tape to correct patellar alignment and decrease symptoms of fat pad irritation
• Design a home exercise program.
• use surface EMG for neuro-muscular re-education
The McConnell Approach is built on the following foundations:
• Understanding the symptoms
• Understanding the causative factors
• Addressing each of these using tape and specific muscle training
Benefits of attending McConnell course
• New skills that they can immediately into practice
• A framework for biomechanical assessment of a patient
• A framework to solve complex musculoskeletal problems
